what does it mean to have "spice"?

this is a reiteration of what i said in the "sweet" page, but i had trouble making this page…

i don’t really know how to draw a distinction between my ships. it was hard to categorize them, because some of the “sweet” ones i got into for the porn, or enjoy in a toxic way, or some other reason. i feel like any ship can be taboo if you moralize it enough.

• lapidot: peridot was literally her captor (and then she became a simp! their dynamic totally shifted! isn’t that such good flavor?!)
• dimilix: felix is soooo awful and shitty to dimitri (felix is mean to everyone. most of all to the people he really cares about. try again)
• 3x4: the show is called codename KIDS next door you freak. why are you shipping kids (i was a kid when i started… also who cares…)

in the end i decided to put certain ships in “sweet,” despite liking them for xyz reason, because ultimately the porn or toxicity was a result of a very specific read of an otherwise plausibly wholesome couple dynamic. i used my best judgment to figure out which ones might need to be separated and caged in this page, so here we are.

some other ones on the "sweet" page could also go here, so they're on both. i've listed my more regular ass, non-taboo porn likes on here as well, because it makes sense to also corral those away from a page labeled "sweet."

violent video games and all that

another reason i hesitated was because of the wank people get into about this kind of media. it's an unhealthy coping mechanism, it normalizes abuse, etc.

i'm aware of the harmful effects of transgressive media, but i don't think it's the only kind of media that has the potential to harm. i believe that as long as something is properly labeled and warned, doesn't present irl bigotry or hate speech in a positive light, and is purely fiction, it's fiction that can exist.

at the end of the day, shipping, like all fiction, is entertainment. your preferences are not what you want or don't want in real life, or what you advocate for, and any moral heinousness pinned on shipping is a lot like saying "video games cause violence" – it's an unfounded claim.

i'm not trying to win World's Most Ethical Shipper, and i have warnings all over my site for a reason – i assume anyone clicking through is an adult who is responsible enough to consume the media they like, avoid stuff that upsets them, and respect anyone else doing the same.
