my hipster goat boyfriend.. i fell in love with him while playing pocket camp and knew i needed him on my island when i got new horizons, so i bought a legit amiibo off of amazon for like six dollars. (he is not very popular, which i am honestly kind of happy about.)

his mouthlessness and lidded eyes are so endearing to me - i just think his design is so peak. i also generally love smug villagers, and on my island where i have at least FOUR, kidd is the one i headcanon as secretly very shy, which endears me more to him.

he's just a goat who likes photography and is pretentious to hide that he's anxious around others. he's always been particularly sweet to my player character, always wanting to hang out or sitting nearby. i think they have a comfortable friendship with lots of romantic affection between them, and my resrep is kidd's favorite person on the island, hence the extra sweetness. i just love him... augh

this guy makes me so insane. i wrote a 15-page google doc about his life. i started reading the patrick melrose novels for him. you're telling me pokemon has a guy who canonically has a gambling addiction? why is it part of his lore that he was from a rich family and lost it all? why does he look so fucked up when you see him in sun/moon? obsessed.

grimsley is my #1 punching bag. i really love to make him suffer and have several AUs in my head where he's having a bad time in different ways... the combination of his sadstuck backstory and extremely punchable personality makes me think he's got lots of intimacy and self-image issues that he represses via self-medication and addiction. delicious cocktail of a disaster man.

in all iterations of him i like to think about, he is a mess with no self-preservation, but my self-ship inserts vary from "guy who kicks him while he's down" to "having a martyr girlfriend would fix him" and it's so much fun.

while he has the most self-ships among all my blorbos, i don't tend to draw them often for some reason...? it's mostly me on my horny twitter being like "i love that this guy canonically* can't get off unless he's slapped in the face." maybe the brainrot is too intense for something as time-consuming as drawing.

piers is such a good character. i love how tangible his love is for what he cares about, from his town to his people to his sister. it's cute that he's awkward around the other gym leaders and gives off a standoffish, snarky impression, but is actually kind of an embarrassing, caring, very emotive ("I'M WORRIED ABOUT MARNIE!!!") guy. and i love that he accompanies you at the end of the game, helping you out to the very end!

in my mind piers was marnie's sole guardian and between that and being the young protector of his town against gentrification (and the guilt that came with seeing it deteriorate as a result), he probably didn't have much time for frivolous fun stuff. but now that he's retired as a gym leader, he gets to pursue what he loves (music) and previously lower priority stuff like dating... enter my self-insert!

i think piers most resembles the kind of guy i would probably like irl too (which i absolutely cannot say for everyone else on this list for multiple reasons...). so my self-ship with him is pretty wholesome. i just wanted to give him a gf because he deserves it.

i walked into encanto (figuratively; it was the pandemic) thinking i'd fall in love with sad wet rat bruno, but came out of it a camilo girl. his theatre kid kusogaki teenboy energy is so so good a flavor, his part in "we don't talk about bruno" absolutely fucked, and though he said like five things during the movie i think he has so much character that would be fun to explore. that combo of "a genuinely good kid" + "cannot help being scampish and boyish and cheeky, as a super yabai teenboy" is just so good...

camilo gives off the vibe of a noona's boy to me, like he'd be friendly bordering on (respectfully) flirty with older women because getting attention/a reaction out of them is especially fun for him. + i also like the idea of someone playful and teasing like camilo being drawn to someone who can balance that energy, so i designed my self-insert-turned-OC around those two things.

he was my major fixation for six whole months in 2022 and i was drawing him and my insert all the time. from a distance it feels like a fever dream period (just because so much time has passed, and i'm surprised at how much i drew) but i still adore him!

my sweet fucked up little guy. i went into the pokemon violet dlc knowing i would like kiki (shy insecure shotas are life), but i did not expect to care as much as i do!

as of writing this only teal mask has been released, but i really like him. for game self-ships, i usually dislike modeling my insert after the player character's lore (i just think it's more fun a creative challenge to create a separate chara concept), but his crush on your trainer is the sweetest thing. i want to explore the contrast between his unsureness / inexperience against the worldliness / quiet confidence of my trainer (a girl who traveled the whole of paldea)... as his friend, i think she could teach him a thing or two ^_^

also, a fact i love is that kieran is from a super small rural town but studies in swanky unova... somehow that makes his everything so much cuter. like, then why are you like that??

i'm also so interested how they set up his character. he's clearly a teenager who still looks SO baby and is treated like one by his sister too, so he continues to play that role without thinking, not really aware of how it just feeds into his insecurity about being outcasted/the odd one out. but the teen angst comes to a head now that you've (unintentionally) wronged him in a way even he can't look past...! he's justifiably angry at the lost time spent being walked all over, but unjust in some of his other reactions. i'm sure he'll realize he's gone about this all in the wrong way (and that reconciliation will be delicious too), but it's fun to explore that mess of entitlement and blame and angst and hurt in the meantime.

a new and unexpected love...! donnie is quite unique because i don't tend to fixate on the "snarky nerd" type of character, but he is so cute... 💓

it's nice that they translated his tech thing to something like "chronically online" – it's a clever way to make him feel more Teen, as they are supposed to be. it's charming that despite being the nerd/geek brother he's kind of the instigator of the troublemaking (he's the one who wanted to stay out and watch the movie! he came up with the plan to work with april!) and almost always the first to push back against leo's leadership lol. i know this is not unique and we've seen lots of cocky tech guys in media, but i specifically like the flavor of it they gave donnie.

i also love that they made him a weeb and a kpop stan. we have very very different tastes (i've actively disparaged all two animes and one kpop group he's shown to enjoy in the film) (sorry...) but i think that's also so fun. as a snarky nerd myself i would be happy to get into a nonserious argument defending our respective faves. donnie you could love svt so much if you just listened to them i fuckin prommy

he was initially in the "crushes" section but i've been insane enough about him that i bumped him up... ANYWAY. i went into rottmnt thinking i'd love donnie the most (i love him a lot too!) but forgot that i have always been a sucker for a guy who is obnoxious and dramatic but secretly has poor self-esteem. ugh!!!!!!!!!!!! (lustful)

his playfulness and boyishness are really cute to me... i don't know how to explain it. i love that it's at odds with the natural leadership and perceptiveness he's got, and how both sides come out super unflattering because he's young and doesn't know how to manage/balance them yet. it's really heartwrenching to me that this guy rarely gets the reassurance and comfort he needs whether he asks for it or not raaah... i want to hold him!!

he's so playful and sillay and secretly very smart, and also like... objectively hot i'm so sorry lmfao. i hate him. i love him. i want to push him down the stairs. i want to jump his bones. i cried for 10 minutes after the movie lmfao
